Our History

Our church began when several families from Superior and Nelson were interested in starting an Evangelical Free Church in Superior. After several meetings they asked the Midwest District of the Evangelical Free Church if a church planter could help them get started. Pastor Mel Loge came to lead a Bible study on “This We Believe” and the group met in a home in Superior

The group began to grow and they needed more room. At that time they purchased the church and parsonage from the Reformed Presbyterian Church and several members of the Reformed Church became part of Grace Community Church

The church continued to grow so they considered calling a pastor. A list of candidates was obtained from the Superintendent of the Midwest District and a call was extended to Pastor Sam Reed in February, 1994.

The church eventually bought the house across the street which they called Grace House. A church office was established in the house and a midweek Children’s Ministry met in the house on Wednesday evenings for a number of years.

When Pastor Reed moved to Chicago in 1999, Pastor Dwight Fuller and his wife Lorene came to Superior to serve as the interim pastor. Pastor Jim Garr and his wife Deanna were welcomed in September of 2000 and left in 2003. Pastor David Johnson, his wife Deb, along with one of their daughters, Tiffany, moved to Superior in June of 2004.

Grace Community Church celebrated its 25th Anniversary in June of 2018.
